Paste your list, get validity, company name and a timestamped record for every number — straight from the European Commission's official VIES service. Free for 25 numbers per run. No signup, no email.
Every result comes from the European Commission's VIES service — the same system the tax authority uses. We add no judgement of our own.
Enter your own VAT number and VIES issues an official consultation number per check — the evidence of good-faith verification EU VAT rules expect. Included free.
Numbers pass through a proxy to reach VIES (browsers cannot call it directly) and are never written to disk, logged, or kept. See how that works.
Germany and Spain do not permit VIES to disclose trader name and address; other member states do. A missing name means "this member state does not publish it", never "this company does not exist". Results say so explicitly.
When you supply your own VAT number, VIES returns a unique identifier for that specific check. It is the record that you verified a customer's status at a given moment — the basis for applying the zero rate on an intra-EU supply in good faith. Keep it with the invoice.
Two frequent causes. First, formatting: spaces, dots and dashes are rejected — this tool strips them for you. Second, the business may be registered for domestic VAT but not for intra-EU trade, in which case VIES will not confirm it.
VIES queries each national database live, and individual states go offline for maintenance. That is a temporary upstream condition, not an invalid number — results distinguish the two so you never record a false negative.
No. This is an independent tool that queries the official VIES service on your behalf and formats the results. The authoritative source is the European Commission.
